The majority of us are attached to the modern conveniences of electronics. But only a minority of us are aware of the possible health dangers posed by the technological advancements that keep our world running.

Invisible energy waves are emitted by our power lines, mobile phones, fridges, microwaves, Wi-Fi adapters, PCs, and other devices. Wherever electricity is used, whether at home or work, electric and magnetic fields (EMFs) are created.

The most recent wireless network is 5G. It is utilized to transmit information among electronics, including Bluetooth and mobile phones. Electromagnetic radiation is the type of energy that 5G generates. It is quicker and more effective because it employs higher frequencies than earlier wireless networks.

Cellular networks, like 5G networks, split the service area into discrete geographic regions known as “cells.” Each 5G wireless device in a cell uses fixed antennas to transmit radio waves to a cellular base station on frequency bands that the base station has designated. The base stations, also known as nodes, are linked to routers for Internet access and swapping centers in the telephone network by a high-bandwidth optical fiber or wireless backhaul links. A mobile device traveling from one cell to another is easily handed over, just like in other cellular networks. Per square kilometer, 5G is anticipated to accommodate up to a million devices.

Higher download speeds—up to 10 gigabits per second (Gbit/s)—are available on the new networks. The performance of Internet services in busy locations is improved by 5G since it is faster than current networks and has a larger capacity that can link more devices.

Emissions of electromagnetic radiation result in areas of energy known as “electromagnetic fields.” Both ionizing and nonionizing EMFs exist. Nonionizing refers to energy emissions from the environment and items or low-level radiation. Cell phones, PCs, power lines, Bluetooth devices, and even microwaves are examples of channels that distribute these waves. Ionizing EMFs, whose sources include sunlight and x-rays, have higher levels of radiation.

When it comes to health and safety, there are significant differences between the two. Ionizing radiation is associated with a rise in cancer in body cells at high doses, most frequently skin cancer from sun exposure.

The highest frequency used by 5G, which uses two frequencies, is between 24 and 54 GHz. Significant increases in data transfer speeds are anticipated to occur at such frequencies. At about 3 million GHz, or far below 5G, electromagnetic waves begin to ionize and become hazardous.

Numerous scientists who have researched cell phone radiation have been accused of spreading fear in the public regarding the arrival of wireless technology’s 5G in the telecom sector and their specialists.

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) will eventually reconsider the radio frequency radiation (RFR) occurrence boundaries that they adopted in the late 1990s, the commission’s official recently stated in a public statement. Such restrictions were created to safeguard us from the short-term thermal risks associated with RFR exposure. They are based on behavioral alterations in animals exposed to microwave radiation.

Most reviewed studies have discovered negative genomic or biological risks from exposure to RFR at intensity levels too low to cause appreciable heating because the FCC approved such boundaries relying heavily on studies from the 1980s.

The International EMF Scientist Appeal, which stands for stricter exposure limits, was signed by more than 235 scientists who have published reviewed studies on the biological and health risks of nonionizing EMF. One could argue that the majority of specialists on the impacts of nonionizing radiation are the scientists who agreed to sign this petition.

The health risks of 5G

While there are significant health risks associated with 5G, there are also some notable false claims. For example, there are claims that it directly causes COVID-19 or that it destabilizes the immune response, thereby making it easier to become infected. Research disproves the notion that 5G contributes to COVID-19 transmission or causes it.

Numerous popular books with questionable scientific support have been written on the subject, including one by Joseph Mercola that claimed wireless technologies were to blame for a wide range of conditions, including ADHD, heart disease, and brain cancer.

The majority of political leaders and other influential people who use radio frequency radiation exposure guidelines appear to disregard the dangers to human and environmental health. The World Health Organization’s (WHO) International Agency for Research on Cancer’s (IARC) May 2011 classification of RF radiation in the frequency range of 30 kHz to 300 GHz as a “possible” human carcinogen is being disregarded. A recent hearing at the Estonian parliament in Tallinn served as an illustration of this.

The National Toxicology Program (NTP) in the United States published a $30 million study in 2018 that discovered “strong evidence” that 2 years of access to cell phone RFR increased cancer in male mice and harmed DNA in both male and female rats and mice. Using a unique carrier frequency and much lower exposure to cell phone radiation throughout the rats’ lives, the Ramazzini Institute in Italy recreated the main findings of the NTP.

RFR has just been given priority by the IARC for a new review within the next five years based on research released since 2011, involving studies on humans and animals and mechanical data. IARC will probably upgrade the carcinogenic risk of RFR shortly because many EMF scientists think there is now enough data to classify RFR as either a potential or known human carcinogen.

The local council of Mill Valley, California, prohibited the introduction of additional 5G wireless cells. In Vermont and New Hampshire, related concerns were discussed. According to a reported statement from the US FDA, “the current safety limits for cellphone radiofrequency energy exposure remain acceptable for protecting public health.” Following activist group advocacy, several tiny UK localities, including Brighton, Hove, Totnes, Glastonbury, and Frome, passed agreements opposing the development of additional 5G infrastructure; however, these resolutions have no bearing on rollout strategies.

The majority of millimeter waves are consumed in the top layers of the cornea and within a few millimeters of human skin. The cardiovascular system, immune system, and peripheral nervous system may all suffer negative physiological effects from short-term exposure. According to research, prolonged exposure may increase the risk of developing melanoma on the skin, ocular melanoma, and testicular cancer (e.g., sterility).

Should our civilization spend hundreds of billions of dollars to deploy 750,000 or even more new cell transmitter sites in the United States nearby where we live, work, and play to implement 5G, a cellular technology?

Instead, we should support the suggestions made by the 250 scientists and medical professionals who signed the 5G Appeal, which demands a temporary halt to the rollout of 5G and funding from our government to conduct the necessary research to apply biological exposure limits that safeguard our safety and health.

Can 5G be a weapon, or are we heading into the biggest cybersecurity threat?

The fact that 5G utilizes sub-millimeter and millimeter waves, just like a crowd management prototype made by the US army, makes it easy to understand where the concept that 5G can be used as a weapon originated. The Active Denial System used by the army emits mm-wave frequencies as a beam that pierces a person’s top layer of skin and causes a heating reaction that isn’t particularly pleasant but doesn’t hurt. People who argue that 5G radio waves’ effects haven’t been thoroughly tested may contrast this device’s effects with those of 5G waves. This is very different from asserting that 5G can be used as a weapon, though.

Another negative aspect of 5G networks is that they make cybersecurity more vulnerable to hacking. Additionally, the absence of encryption during connection also makes 5G-enabled devices a more accessible target for cybercrime and data theft. Cyber attackers may take advantage of 5G systems to interfere with the infrastructure of the current 4G/LTE network. The billions of connected devices that 5G networks support may make previously unsafe IoT devices that join this network particularly vulnerable. Malicious hardware and software could be supplied by unreliable vendors as a result of increased risks brought on by supply management attacks against 5G infrastructure.

It will be difficult for security monitoring tools designed to look for threats, vulnerabilities, and fraudulent behavior in network traffic as a result of the increased volume of information flowing over 5G networks.

With “edge computing,” in which computing resources are relocated to wherever the facilities are located rather than a centralized location, 5G supports the shift from the traditional core network boundaries. This raises the possibility of unsecured and untrusted devices connecting to the 5G network, though.

Bonus dangers of 5G

5g-beast-system-2

Although 5G technology is said to have the highest speed, one of its drawbacks is that it is currently only available in a small number of cities worldwide that have 5G towers. The adoption and integration of 5G would take years because the testing, trialing, and installation of 5G transmitters is an expensive process, even though international businesses and governments are working to ensure that all cities have 5G coverage.

Another drawback of 5G networks is that they impair cellular devices by shortening their lifespan and draining their batteries. Only a small number of manufacturers have so far released 5G-compatible mobile devices. While efforts are being made to create 5G phones, the network is proving to be a curse for 4G phones as it frequently results in battery damage.

With 5G technology, download speeds can reach up to 1.9 GB/s in some instances. The upload speeds are infrequently greater than 100 Mbps, so they are not quite as remarkable as first claimed. However, compared to current mobile connectivity, the upload speeds are faster than those of 4G LTE.

Is it even worth it?
