Abortion and the Modern Altar of Child Sacrifice: A Faith-Based Examination

Lawmakers Are Sacrificing Children to Molech. When Will the Church Wake Up?

by Joseph Mattera | Charisma Media

In the beginning of the year 2019, the Democratic-controlled Senate and the far-left governor at the helm of New York state colluded to amend the state constitution and pass a heinous law that allows the bloodletting of the innocent unborn until birth. This abhorrent extension of already existing abortion law was likely established because of the fear that Roe v. Wade will be overturned by the Supreme Court, which means that other left-leaning states are likely to follow suit if this is not overturned.

This is certainly a demonically inspired law that causes one to question how a major political party can fall so far away from a common-sense view regarding the sanctity of life. It must be demonically inspired, which reminds me of the evil days in Israel’s sordid history when the people fell into idol worship and sacrificed their children to the false god Moloch. See Psalm 106:37-38a-b, which says: “They sacrificed their sons and their daughters to demons; and poured out innocent blood, even the blood of their sons and of their daughters, whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan.”

🕊️ Abortion and the Modern Altar of Child Sacrifice: A Faith-Based Examination

written by EternalAffairsMedia.com:

Few topics expose the moral decay of modern civilization more starkly than abortion. What polite society calls a “procedure” is, in spiritual reality, the deliberate destruction of a living child formed by God’s own design. To view this issue faithfully demands that we strip away euphemism and look with clear eyes at what Scripture reveals: abortion is not liberation — it is sacrifice, and the altar upon which it is offered is the altar of human pride.

🌿 I. The Sanctity of Life: God’s Signature on Every Soul

From the opening verses of Genesis, life is portrayed not as an accident of biology but as a deliberate act of divine creativity. “So God created man in His own image; male and female He created them” (Genesis 1:27). That one sentence reveals both the origin and the worth of every human being. To destroy innocent life is to deface the image of God Himself.

Psalm 139 deepens this truth: “For You created my inmost being; You knit me together in my mother’s womb.” The unborn are not “potential” lives — they are God’s handiwork in progress, known and named before birth. Jeremiah 1:5 records God’s declaration: “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you.”

If the Creator knows each child before any doctor can detect a heartbeat, then to end that life is to interfere with a divine plan — to reject God’s authorship over creation.

🔥 II. The Ancient Roots of Child Sacrifice

The Bible’s writers were painfully familiar with the horror we now dignify with the term “choice.” In the Old Testament, nations surrounding Israel — particularly the Canaanites, Moabites, and Ammonites — practiced child sacrifice to deities such as Molech and Baal. Infants were burned alive as offerings to ensure prosperity, fertility, or political favor. God’s response was unambiguous wrath.

In Leviticus 18:21, He commands: “Do not give any of your children to be sacrificed to Molech, for you must not profane the name of your God.”
And in Psalm 106:37–38, the prophet laments: “They sacrificed their sons and daughters to demons; they shed innocent blood.”

The motivation for ancient sacrifice was always the same: expediency. A child stood in the way of personal, economic, or social gain. The offering promised comfort, reputation, or convenience. Sound familiar? The rituals have changed — modern parents face sterile clinics instead of fiery idols — but the underlying impulse remains the same: to secure one’s autonomy through the destruction of another.

When society normalizes the killing of its young, it reenacts the ancient rebellion against divine order while pretending it’s enlightened progress.

⚖️ III. The Idol of Self: How “Choice” Replaced God

The slogan “my body, my choice” is more theological than most people realize. It defines the self as an absolute authority — a miniature deity whose will must not be questioned. But Scripture rejects this premise entirely. “You are not your own; you were bought with a price” (1 Corinthians 6:19–20).

The life within a mother is not her property; it is a sacred trust. The Lord gives life, and it is His alone to take. When abortion is defended on the grounds of convenience, fear, or ambition, we are not exercising freedom — we are performing worship before a false god: the god of Self.

Every society has altars. Ours just conceal them behind words like “healthcare” and “rights.” The instruments are cleaner, the language is gentler, but make no mistake — the altar still burns, and children are still the sacrifice.

💔 IV. The Psychological and Spiritual Toll

Even without invoking theology, the scars abortion leaves are visible in the brokenness that follows. Study after study shows that many women experience depression, guilt, or spiritual emptiness after terminating a pregnancy — even in environments assuring them it was a “positive choice.” That gnawing grief is the soul’s recognition of having violated something sacred.

The biblical description of sin’s consequences fits perfectly: “The wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23). Death does not always mean physical demise; it manifests as spiritual desolation, broken families, collapsed relationships, and intergenerational wounds. Many fathers and grandparents carry the same hidden trauma — unspoken guilt, silent sorrow.

God’s moral law is not meant to punish but to protect. When society discards His order, the punishment becomes self-inflicted. Abortion doesn’t only kill a child; it wounds an entire chain of souls connected to that child.

🩸 V. The Industry of Death: Profit in the Place of Compassion

In the ancient world, priests of Molech profited from the offerings brought by fearful parents. Today, abortion conglomerates reap millions in taxpayer funding and private donations. Behind the language of “rights” lies a machine powered by money, targeting vulnerable women with seductive lies about empowerment.

Where the church once offered refuge for the pregnant, abortion clinics offer annihilation wrapped in sterile efficiency. The parallel is chilling: both then and now, the vulnerable are persuaded that destruction is the path to peace.

Even the sale of fetal tissue — documented in undercover investigations — mirrors the ancient trade in sacrificial remains. It’s the same spiritual principle: extracting economic or scientific gain from the bodies of the slain. This is not progress. It is refinement of evil.

🕯️ VI. God’s Justice and Mercy: The Path to Redemption

Modern culture treats sin as outdated moralism, but divine justice is not negotiable. Scripture consistently warns that the shedding of innocent blood cries out to Heaven. In Proverbs 6:17–19, God lists seven things He hates — among them, “hands that shed innocent blood.”

Yet the Christian faith also declares that no sin, however grave, is beyond the reach of repentance. The blood of Christ was shed to redeem precisely the kind of blood-guilt humanity cannot cleanse on its own.

The Gospel invitation remains open: “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9). Women who have had abortions are not beyond hope. Fathers who consented, doctors who performed, politicians who defended — all may be forgiven if they turn away and call upon mercy.

But forgiveness requires truth first — a full acknowledgment that what happened was not “healthcare,” not “choice,” but the destruction of a child created in God’s image.

⚔️ VII. The Church’s Responsibility: To Speak, Not to Compromise

Far too many pulpits have gone silent, excusing their cowardice under the banner of “inclusivity.” The ancient prophets did not soften their words when children were being killed — neither should today’s pastors. Ezekiel 33 warns shepherds that if they fail to sound the alarm, the blood of the victims will be required at their hands.

To preach the fullness of the Gospel includes declaring that abortion is sin, and that repentance and reconciliation are possible through Christ. Truth without compassion hardens hearts; compassion without truth damns souls. The Church must therefore combine both — unwavering moral clarity linked to open arms for the repentant.

Christian believers cannot outsource moral duty to politicians alone. Every follower of Christ is called to actively defend life: by supporting crisis pregnancy centers, adopting, fostering, mentoring, or simply telling the truth when silence is convenient. Spiritual warfare today begins not just in voting booths but in conversations, classrooms, and family tables.

🌅 VIII. The Prophetic Parallel: When Nations Offer Their Young

Scripture tells us that when Israel engaged in child sacrifice, divine judgment followed — not through lightning from heaven, but through collapse from within. Societies that devalue life inevitably disintegrate. History repeats this principle: civilizations prosper for a time while killing their young, then drift into demographic decline, moral confusion, and despair.

Our era is no different. Below the slogans about autonomy lies demographic suicide: millions of unborn children gone, aging populations collapsing under the weight of declining birth rates, and spiritual barrenness spreading like drought. The false altar promises freedom; it delivers extinction.

To reclaim moral ground requires more than new laws — it demands spiritual renewal. The battle over abortion is not political in essence; it is a test of what gods a nation will serve. The outcome determines not just policy but destiny.

💠 IX. Responding With Faith and Courage

Believers are not left powerless. Scripture provides both the warning and the remedy:

  1. Pray for hearts to change, not merely laws.
Laws follow culture, and culture follows conscience. Only the Holy Spirit can soften a nation’s collective heart.
  2. Support alternatives to abortion — adoption ministries, maternity homes, and practical aid. True pro-life conviction must manifest as compassion, not condemnation.
  3. Expose the lies of the culture of death. Speak plainly: abortion is killing. Refute euphemism with truth clothed in love.
  4. Confront moral cowardice in leadership. Demand integrity from pastors, politicians, and professionals alike.
  5. Offer restoration to those wounded by abortion. Healing testimonies often reach ears that dogma cannot.

As the Apostle Paul wrote, “Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good” (Romans 12:21). Each defended child, each repentant heart, each courageous witness chips away at the darkness.

🕊️ X. Conclusion: The Cross vs. the Altar of Molech

Two altars confront humanity. One is ancient, soaked in the blood of the innocent — the altar of Molech, now disguised in modern rhetoric. The other is the Cross, where the innocent blood of the Son of God was shed to redeem those who once offered their own children. Every person, church, and nation must choose their altar.

Abortion is humanity’s latest and most sophisticated form of child sacrifice. Its priests wear lab coats, its temples call themselves clinics, and its hymns are sung in the name of “rights.” But behind the polished doors the same old transaction takes place: life exchanged for convenience, innocence traded for autonomy.

Yet even amid judgment, mercy stands open. The same God who denounced child sacrifice offers forgiveness to those who turn from it. He restores the broken and gives meaning even to the ashes of lost children.

For individuals and nations alike, repentance is the only path back from the brink. As Deuteronomy 30:19 declares: “I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live.”

To choose life is not a slogan — it is obedience. It is worship of the Giver of Life Himself.

And until the killing stops, the Church must never stop crying aloud:

Life belongs to God. The womb is holy ground. No more sacrifices.
