Wait, God is Faithful … It may look slow, but wait for it all the same. It will SURELY come!
Why Should I WAIT ON THE LORD? … and How Do I Do It?
by Moses Ayodeji Solanke (theburningbushboy)
Even youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall, but those who wait on the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint (Isa. 40:30-31 NKJV).
We have many believers wondering if God is a promise-keeper. Although they have not come out to say God is not, but due to the battles of fear, doubt and depression raging in their heart, they have indirectly and quietly concluded that God may not necessarily honor His words.
This is worrisome because God is not a man that He should lie. Perhaps we have not been taught, or we are yet to accept the truth that waiting is part of the deal of walking with God. Every promise from God comes with a waiting period, short or long as it may be.
Though it tarries, please wait for it! Children of God, there is always a waiting period!
God is dynamic, doing things as He wills, unquestionably. He may give you a promise now and choose to fulfill it the next minute. All the same, He may decide to bring the fulfilment within a day, months or even years, but never longer than necessary.
Many, in their ignorance of the nature of God, have questioned Him, wondering why He’s taking Him so long to fulfill His promises. This might have generated doubt in their hearts. They wander about, unable to understand why a loving God has chosen to stay away for so long in their situation.
If only men would appreciate God’s faithfulness and commitment to fulfilling His promises, perhaps we would be calm. Be still, my soul!
Paul said this of God: “He who calls you is faithful, who also will do it.” 1 Thess. 5:24 NKJV
The God who initiated the calling is faithful – His faithfulness will compel Him to perform. God gets to work, not because of our faithfulness but His – He cannot deny Himself! “If we are faithless, he remains faithful, for he cannot deny himself.” (2 Tim. 2:13) ESV.
The writer of the book of Hebrews also added this testimony: “Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering; FOR HE WHO PROMISED IS FAITHFUL. Heb. 10:23 NKJV.
The faithfulness of God is what makes Him God. No matter the time it takes, all His promises shall be fulfilled because He is God and not a man.
Man is not under any obligation to keep his promises, for even if he wishes to fulfil them, he may later be found limited in one way or another.
The man who promised to pay your rent may, before then, become bankrupt. That is man for you! A man may be faithful to a promise, yet limited in executing it.
However, the wonderful thing about God is that:
“God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?” Num. 23:19 NKJV.
God cannot lie! He cannot be stranded or incapable of acting. He is not confused concerning His promise to you. He hasn’t forgotten what He said. No! He is also not limited in any sense to perform what He promised. He is all-knowing, all-powerful, and He is everywhere.
Do we believe God is even more than all these? If He is, why have men, over the years, found it difficult to wait for Him, on Him, with Him and in Him?
Unfortunately, many have completely missed out. Many no longer consider God’s promises because they cannot cope with waiting. Unable to wait on Him, we have generated alternatives to God’s promises. Today, we are running after something for our lives that is so strange to Him.
Not knowing what to do while waiting for God’s promises can be frustrating. It is important to note that God may answer and fulfil His promises immediately or take His time for reasons known to Him.
If you ask God why He is taking His time, He will explain. But if He keeps mute, His silence becomes part of the game for you to learn. Be calm, He remains faithful!
There is always a waiting period for every believer to experience. The believer must know what s/he is waiting for and, more importantly, the integrity of the God who promised.
Knowing and trusting God’s track record will help you to enjoy your waiting period, no matter how long it takes.
You can develop a strong character while waiting for God. Learn the ropes while waiting and vigilantly avoid issues that may distract you from the waiting track.
The waiting period can be misunderstood. The waiting period is a period of testing that can cause a man to derail in faith.
However, this period should be considered a moment of fun. It should be a period for self-discovery and, especially, for revelations from God.
Instead of murmuring and grumbling, use the period to learn and understand whatever God is bringing during the period. Use the period to build up your faith and patience.
At the very end, the promise shall be fulfilled.
“For still the vision awaits its appointed time; it hastens to the end – it will not lie. If it seems slow, wait for it; it will surely come; it will not delay”. Hab. 2:3 ESV
It may look slow, but wait for it all the same. It will SURELY come!
