You could face jail time for handing out plastic straws in Santa Barbara
Santa Barbara is the latest city to ban plastic straws and their ordinance comes with particularly harsh penalties. The coastal city says the ban applies to restaurants, bars, and various establishments and warns that repeat offenders could be subjected to hefty fines or even face jail time. The measure was passed earlier this month in response to plastic amounting in the world’s oceans. The measure doesn’t address those with special needs who require a straw to eat or drink.
